The Best Of The Duprees
The pride of Jersey City, NJ scored big with "You Belong to Me" and its follow-up, the similarly styled "My Own True Love." It's easy to see why, too, listening to this 18-track collection of the group's best Coed sides from the early '60s; they had that classic Italian group, homeboy sound that, with the right material, produced hits in the pre-Beatles part of the '60s. Although all avenues in producing sound-alike singles in the mold of their opening-gun hit are exhausted here, their turns on uptempo material like "I Wish I Could Believe You" along with their loopy take of "September in the Rain" make them more than a one-sound group.
