Mi Vida Es Cantar
Okay muchachos, bring in the real salsa. With ten times the hipness and little of the schmaltz of most other salseros and salseras, sexagenarian Celia Cruz continues to reign supreme. Evident on MI VIDA ES CANTAR, Celia still brings history, taste and sass to the microphone without any unnecessary dramatics. Coaxing sweet lines out of the horn section with her customary cry, "Azucar!," Celia is supported by the knowing hands of producer Isidro Infante on piano and keyboards. The opener, "El No Te Quiere Na'" is a spirited, fun-yet-pointed admonition about abusers and womanizers. Celia gives thanks for her voice on the title track, and moves to an upbeat merengue on "Me Estan Hablando Del Cielo." The young chanteuse India lends her pipes elsewhere for an intergenerational feel, adding up to yet another excellent batch of old-school salsa with Senora Celia stirring the pot.
