Más Sabroso
Adalberto Santiago's powerful voice and Ray Santos' sassy, swinging arrangements are the key features of this superior effort, the best of Santiago's post-Fania days. At that time, salsa was in a somewhat stagnant state due to poor promotion and an indifferent following, but Santiago was undaunted, and this simply adds a new notch to the singer's colorful recording career. The title tune, "El Borrachón," "Firme," and Luis García's version of "Echate Pa'lla" (formerly recorded by another colleague from the Fania All-Stars, Justo Betancourt) are the most recommendable. Arrangements are by Santos, García, David "Piro" Rodríguez, and Steve Sacks. Más Sabroso is a sheer delight from one of salsa's most accomplished vocalists. The album includes work from Reynaldo Jorge on trombone and composer Charlie Donato on bass, prior to the latter's departure to the Gilberto Santa Rosa Orchestra.
