Billy Ward and the Dominoes: Featuring Clyde McPhatter and Jackie Wilson
This collection embraces the pop-oriented ballads and occasional standards recorded by the quintet between 1950-1955, fronted by Clyde McPhatter and Jackie Wilson, McPhatter's successor. There are some great vocal acrobatics, especially on "When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano" (McPhatter). Wilson's only claim to lead work on this collection is his reading of "Tenderly." The CD version is an exact facsimile of the similarly titled original King LP, and duplicates two 1977 Gusto reissues.
